Hmm Not sure I like the changes to the original story.2.5 Hmm Not sure I like the changes to the original story.2.5 I ve never read a single Buffy comic nor ever caught a glimpse of the show, so this issue was perfect for me I was already overjoyed to be able to get my hands on the Kevin Wada variant cover, and the art inside was just as dazzling I ve always been interested in Buffy, and this issue was the push I needed to finally allow myself to enter this world It was fantastic, I m hooked, and can t wait to see what comes next. Buffy gets rebooted in time for the remake that s supposed to come out in the next couple of years WhohoooOOOOOooo Actually, I m just about done with Buffy s comic series that was a continuation of the TV show While it wasn t always great Fuck you 2nd half of season 8 it did have some great moments season 10 11 This is a complete reboot The first issue even feels a lot like the TV shows first few episodes, but quicker paced, but hitting same notes Notable changes like making Willow gay Buffy gets rebooted in time for the remake that s supposed to come out in the next couple of years WhohoooOOOOOooo Actually, I m just about done with Buffy s comic series that was a continuation of the TV show While it wasn t always great Fuck you 2nd half of season 8 it did have some great moments season 10 11 This is a complete reboot The first issue even feels a lot like the TV shows first few episodes, but quicker paced, but hitting same notes Notable changes like making Willow gay right away, introducing Spike a lot earlier, using modern day slang to replace late 90 s Overall, it feels like 2 3 episodes mashed together in 4 long issues Saying that, it mostly works I ll admit the first issue was intriguing but not super impressed I was worried it would follow the show too close Not give itself the freedom to try new things As it went on, clearly that changed Sure, most character s stayed similar but there were a TON of new plot points and a great ending twist Also, the art, THANK YOU This art looks much closer to show, way better, andvibrant Overall, I m hooked A 4 out of 5 I m not big into Buffy, but this was a solid start Not a fan of he cliffhanger ending, but that s par for the course I guess Artwork was great, character development was weak, leaning too heavily on the pre developed characters I think, but if this is a new beginning, you need to build a better base Also, story jumped around a bit with no real cohesion Solid 3 stars Looking forward to reading the rest. That s a really clever way to reboot the series the same characters but very different set up Worth a go 4 5 SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW When I say I am a DIE HARD Buffy fan, it is not an exaggeration I would die for these characters So, yes I was completely skeptical when I saw this graphic novel and realized that it was a complete revamping no pun intended of the series Buffy as a millennial Really WHY Why mess with Buffy as it was, chock full of everything that is fantastically 90 s So yes, skeptical, but being the fan that I am, I had to check it out.SO glad that I did Okay, so this 4 5 SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW When I say I am a DIE HARD Buffy fan, it is not an exaggeration I would die for these characters So, yes I was completely skeptical when I saw this graphic novel and realized that it was a complete revamping no pun intended of the series Buffy as a millennial Really WHY Why mess with Buffy as it was, chock full of everything that is fantastically 90 s So yes, skeptical, but being the fan that I am, I had to check it out.SO glad that I did Okay, so this volume follows Buffy as she befriends Willow and Xander upon moving to Sunnydale They develop an almost identical relationship to the one in the show, which is great Another thing you don t mess with The Scooby Gang Familiar characters are introduced with slight changes sexuality, personality, etc which were mostly just fine, i.e Willow being an out lesbian from the get go but one thing I couldn t get behind was Cordelia being portrayed as a nice girl WTF Okay, we all know our girl eventually develops a moral compass, but it s a JOURNEY Also, Spike The illustrations of him were great but his portrayal was just blah Wanted so muchfrom him, and I dreaded that he seems to have a similar connection with Drusilla in this adaptation, but I m hoping the next volume will give me muchof what I want from him. They also included a character from the last season of the TV series who didn t originally attend Sunnydale High, and I dug that The end was really heartbreaking, but definitely made me ready for the next volume Thank goodness I waited 9 months to read this and now only have 1 month to wait for volume two.All in all, 4 5 stars I m shocked, but in the best way possible Nothing will replace my unconditional love of the Buffy canon, but I m really looking forward to continuing this reimagining of the series
