Why Addison Spoilers I loved and hated this book It was perfect until the end I knew the ending wouldn t be your typical happily ever after but I still expected Claire and Shepard to be together I m sorely disappointed by the way it ended ending are supposed to give resolutions and conclude the story Instead I m left in doubt on what actually happened to Claire and Shepard I still have questions that Addison failed to answer Did she kill herself What happened to Shepherd Hell, Why Addison Spoilers I loved and hated this book It was perfect until the end I knew the ending wouldn t be your memories and possibilities given to us the reader are just so lacking to conclude this beautiful story I expectedfrom this moving story but what I got was a huge let down So to wrap this up, here is my final opinion, Addison Cain writes engaging stories that have surpassed some of my favorite books by some best selling authors I love her writing and though I wished I could do a Stephen King Misery kind of thing and force her to rewrite me a different ending, I still loved this book and so I can t say I completely hated the story and never will buy another book by this author She will still be on auto buy, but Addison if you read this, next time you can still make a story memorable without breaking your readers heart Audio 5 stars Shepherds voice was everything I could imagined for an arrogant anti hero sexy, forbidden, hate yourself for loving it kind of voice And Claire wow A male narrator that manages to capture her sarcastic and at times defeated voice I was beyond impressed with the narrator The book 3.5 stars because of the ending.I didn t some bitching about the length vs the price when I reviewed Books 1 2, but in all honesty my biggest gripe were with the cliffhanger endings. This series Audio 5 stars Shepherds voice was everything I could imagined for an arrogant anti hero sexy, forbidden, hate yourself for loving it kind of voice And Claire wow A male narrator addictive That s why I found myself almost two years later reading listening to book 3 I knew the ending would piss me off and it did I ve never heard of a trilogy that ends in a cliffhanger Claire and Shepperd s story continues in the spin off that is about another couple Color me annoyed Will that stop me from reading the spin off Nope I grudgingly admit that there is a brilliance behind Addison Cain s dark stories that has me coming back for Firstly let me say I M NOT HAPPY in fact I m seriously bloody unhappy right now.Why I purposely delayed reading this series until all 3 books were out I checked on Goodreads since they show all books in any series together at the side and there it was Alpha s Claim 3 books So I started reading and even though Claire was annoying at times I check all her other books for any that might continue the story and I find 1 book Stolen that is apparently too short and a cliffhanger view spoiler I have to read it because it contains Shepherd and Claire but then I m left waiting hide spoiler Did I mention I m bloody pissed Okay rant over this is supposed to be a review of Reborn. It continues on from Broken and it s a riveting read especially towards the end Claire was annoying at times Shepherd was fabulous and the ending was disappointing Well this is one the reasons why I don t really read part series book 1 You have to wait for the next part to be released.2 You tend to forget the story characters so you have to re read them again to remind you of it.3 Author can fuck you up and take different route ending LOLStill a good story society but Im a firm believer that there still needs to be a message of hope of some kind in the end or at the very least a smart and educational critique and or commentary on society Through two wonderful books, the author creates these complex characters, allowing us to witness this dark work and these characters struggling to just survive Despite this darkness, the author Sigh I m so and these characters struggling to just survive Despite this darkness, the author still promised like a dangling carrot it s readers the existence of a never ending hope for a better future and the potential for a new better world Would it be Claire s or Shepherd s that would succeed in the end That question really drove this plot and this romance forward and kept me coming back forThe answer we get in this book is essentially no one wins and everyone dies Basically ALL the pain and suffering we saw these characters go through was for not On top of that, we get a REALLY unnecessary rape scene of our herione that just felt unnecessarily graphic the only purpose it served was to physically, spiritually, and mentally break her and lead her toward suicide Shepherd s death was anticlimactic with us still not all the way understanding his or his army s rationale for killing the city or this plot with Svana a woman our hero to his dying day never stood up to Also in retrospect, outside the romance and world building, the plot of the war was always a little confusing to me but I chose to ignore it because I loved these characters so much With the author killing everyone off, I had to ask myself who outsmarted who, how did they outsmart them, and for what purpose There was some s about a royal bloodlines I think and a possible kingdom plus some s about a virus I know Shepherd wanted to kill everyone but honestly why was it such a MUST I m still confused about what Svana was needed for or what she was apparently an heir too like why was she ALLOWED to roam around and successfully plot against Shepherd and Claire I do have to give it to Cain, she is an amazing writer that can create some compelling characters and interactions that make a not so cohesive plot seem like pleasant white noise In the end, the entire war plot line felt rushed, important characters killed off with questions and motivations still unanswered and the only resolution I can ascertain being the corrupt state wins again The same corrupt elite class STILL controlling things and Claire s message of hope is perverted in the end to once again control the complacent masses Cain leaves a slight opening that some characters may be alive but with this being the final book, it was a cold comfort honestly I want to emphasize that Cain is a great writer but this ending was not the business, y all This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here I m a huge fan of Addison Cain I don t know her background how she came to publish her books, if she self publishes, or what her editing process is like but it seems that she set out on her own and wove a really fascinating story Shepherd and Claire are complicated and their relationship is emotional and sweet but disturbing Anyhoo, I adored the first two books in this series I could find NO FAULTS in them The characters were so well developed The sex scenes are some of the BEST I VE EVER I m a huge fan of fascinating story Shepherd and Claire are complicated and their relationship is emotional and sweet but disturbing Anyhoo, I adored the first two books in this series I could find NO FAULTS in them The characters were so well developed The sex scenes are some of the BEST I VE EVER READ That being said, what the hell happened I can t say that this review is entirely objective because I was upset with the ending but let s look at this logically first The story became convoluted by the end Some of my doubts which may have been addressed but obviously not well enough for me to recall how they were resolved were Svana comes from a different dome but then we find out she s also the senator s daughter and she s trying to have sex with someone what Why introduce the virus It served no purpose in the end I still don t know what it does.We think Svana is going to do one thing to destroy the city but she does another thing but we had no idea what she was going to do in the first place or what she ended up doing because a bunch of stuff just explodes and I can t understand why Shepherd isn t ready for that. What happens to Maryanne Why bother introducing her as a character Why bother introducing Conrad for that matter he serves no purpose. Why even bother building Claire up as a heroine of some sort Cain creates this anticipation that Claire will somehow save the day and instead she s just drugged and contributes nothing to the battle for the soul of the city Why talk about the Omegas What happens to them The first two books in the series seemed to center on the struggle between Claire and Shepherd s ideals the nature of humanity whether the people under the dome were redeemable and how this affected their relationship Claire couldn t love Shepherd because he couldn t see the good in people Because Cain spends so much time on this topic I assumed that the culmination of the book would address this in some way I assumed the ending might have them overcome their differences Perhaps Claire would show Shepherd the good in some people or Claire would read the forbidden books okay, she read one but that doesn t count and agree to escape the dome with him However, their story was truncated She possibly loves her baby but we don t really know The pregnancy makes her depressed She seems to accept it in the end but who knows She doesn t want to abandon the dome but Shepherd drugs her to get her to leave He doesn t change his opinion about the people in the dome Where is the resolution of that conflict It seems like Cain built all of that up for nothing.Svana s whole takeover seems arbitrary, like the author was anxious to be finished and wanted to wrap things up quickly.Emotional reactions It s possible that Cain is a tragedy writer and the arbitrary ending is exactly what she intended that we as readers feel disgusted and hopeless by the senseless violence that ends the book.Shepherd, the most powerful alpha in the dome and Claire s protector dies because a wall falls on him That s lame as hell.Claire s gang rape was absolutely un fucking necessary It was gross and sick as fuck Excuse my strong language but I found it offensive as hell When she feels herself miscarrying I mean for the love of God And then she lives out the rest of her life in a catatonic state I mean at least Svana dies.I thought Jules organ donation at the end was a nice touch.I still love Cain s writing I m just sad as hell that the story ended this way I don t think it was a strong finish
