diffe I adored the first book in this series and was eager to pick things up with the sister, Lia s romance The small sea side town setting and focus on the sea with the whale watching business was a huge plus I got a shock when I started reading because I was anticipating something much like I got from the first book in tone, pacing, characters and romance It didn t take me long to realize and appreciate that the author changed things up two very different sisters in personality so two very different stories The continuity was in the setting and writing style. And because of what I disclosed just before, this also means that this story can easily be read as a standalone or out of order The book opens with Lia McCabe in a tizzy because she muscled through plans for her friend unbeknownst to him hey its for his own good that are now threatening to fall apart around them both because of Drew s motorcycle accident that will keep him from captaining his whale watching boat for all the tours she set up and in particular the ones with wealthy potential investors particularly one that will help her land a dream position at her marketing company Lia is a control freak and a fixer so in spite of Drew s emphatic order to stay away from his brother as an option for replacement captain, she races over to Evan Betancourt s boat to cajole the moody man into helping his brother It doesn t take long before she realizes that Drew might have had his reasons especially when she sees the mess that is his brother Desperate times and all She needs Evan to help land her dream job oh, and help out Drew.Evan has been numbly going through the motions for the last two years and still miserable from the death of his wife and son Now he has Miss Perky Cinderella bull nosing her way into his life and not taking no for an answer She also doesn t seem to mind her own business and thrives on managing other people And she calls him bossy But he owes Drew so he will do this Captaining Drew s boat, putting up with the tourists, and working with Cinderella aren t as bad as he thought, but Lia pushes him in ways that force him to feel, to remember and to think It s painful and she just keeps pushing him forHe can see that she s a workaholic and her focus is trained on running ragged to please a demanding boss and a spoiled rich boy all to land her dream post in Paris for her firm Evan is attracted and so is she, but he has his past and she has a boyfriend and it is just not a good idea, right Alright, so what did I think about this one, wellI wasn t nearly as impressed as I was with the first book In fact, I almost shut it for good several times, but I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt since I really liked the first book I ll start with the things I liked I liked the setting of Sandy Cove and the backdrop of whale watching industry Very cool The author did her homework and made me feel right there for such a fun activity I have been on many whale watching expeditions growing up in Northern California and we had a few regular whale celebrities named just like in this book I thought the conflict between the brothers a painful, but interesting scenario I liked the pressure of the rich guy and the pushy boss as the external conflict The problem the heroine faced between choosing her tight controlled world and the adventure of the romance with Evan was full of sparkle and sizzle So, why the disappointment Well, the heroine s pushy and controlling personality was instant turn off The author wrote her true to type and wrote her well with her flaws hanging out there obvious to the world, but I couldn t stand her from page one and almost quit by the end of the first chapter the way she was manipulating a guy she called friend and shoving her way into his brother s life all to save her own butt and a little of Drew s You can wrap it all up in pretty paper, but ultimately her behavior was selfish and oblivious to the core Evan sees her as his heroine for plowing through his grief and guilt and making him open up I never saw her as that big of a catalyst in his change and I never saw a woman that inspired a romance which is the pertinent issue since this is a romance She was just so all over the place like a busy bee on speed and quick with her stinger particularly at her love interest that I felt the romance took a small backseat to her issues It was near the end that her eyes were opened and I saw hope for her After saying all that I have about the heroine, I will offer up the fact that I m well aware this was a personal peeve and others may absolutely adore Lia and have no problem with her personality type.I suppose shuffling all my impressions into one pile leaves me with an overall moderately engaging read There was a lot of good blended with the drama and there was some spicy passion late in the book Since most of my issue was with the heroine and I did have a good time with everything else, I am willing to pick up the next book in the series I am going to recommend this book series for those who leantoward character driven than action driven plot, characters who have flaws that work out slowly as does the hard fought for romance and particularly those who like the small town cute Contemporary Romance. My thanks to Penguin Group for providing the book in exchange for an honest review Ten Good Reasons I and Lia are one of those opposites attract type couples even though I really don t think that Evan is really as bad as everyone makes him out to be Lauren really made him a win for me and what sis that Lia is the perfect counter to even it all out for both the plot and the broken heart sullen hero struggling to push society away Lia really carries the weight of the story well and she doesn t complain often or make excuses She finds ways to solve a problem and she works around it There were a couple things that I could have gone either way on but all in all I really enjoyed Ten Good Reasons I read this book in 2 days it was so fun to read Lauren has a way of making you feel like you are part of the story, watching the whales, smelling the oceanBetween the whale watching adventures, night clubs, trying to get a charter business going and all the romantic tension between Lia and Even everyone will love this book Ten Good Reasons by Lauren Christopher is the second book it will not be my last.Lia McCabe is our wonderful heroine, and she is a bubbly, whirlwind of exuberance who is also a workaholic and a loyal friend Lia s best friend, Drew, who owns and runs a whale watching tour boat, has just had a bad accident on his motorcycle The tour is ready to begin, and totally booked Lia is desperate to find someone to take over the tour, and help out Drew Since she has arranged for a high profile client to attend a couple of the tours, she is determined to keep the tour on, as her job promotion depends on it.Evan Betancourt is our hero, and Drew s estranged brother Evan is a recluse, travelling the world on a boat for two years, since his wife and son were killed tragically He passes through Sandy Cove to fix his boat, and try to visit the brother he hasn t seen in a long time Just when he chickens out, he meets a desperate Lia, who will not take no for an answer.Lia doesn t know Evan s past, or why he and Drew do not talk to each other All she knows is she needs Evan to run the tour boat until Drew gets better After being a major pest, Lia finally convinces Evan to help out his brother for a week or so, until they can find someone else. What follows is wonderful sweet story that allows us to enjoy the whale watching tours, which Christopher details so well, that we feel we are on the boat with them This was a lot of fun seeing how these tours go, getting to know some of the wonderful secondary characters and watching Evan s frozen heart slowly begin to melt The chemistry between them was off the wall sizzling, though from the beginning neither of them were interested in any kind of relationship But as they spend time together on the tours, they get to know each other, and the fun begins, since they can no longer avoid those feelings.Even when they do act on their attraction to each other, we know that the future for anythinghas to be slim Evan finds it hard to let go of his tragic past, but he has not felt this way for two years Lia finds herself enjoying the benefits of Evan s stay, knowing he is leaving shortly and she wants her promotion, which will send her to Paris Is there a future for Lia and Evan You will need to read this book to find out Lauren Christopher has written a wonderful story, about a fabulous couple, so different and yet so perfect for each other Ten Good Reasons is a perfect read that you will not and an overly optimistic heroine as they work together to help a brother and a friend This satisfied my reading love, a man in emotional pain who has retreated from the world and the woman who brings him back.Lia works in marketing for an extremely demanding woman she calls Vampiress, she also helps her friend Drew by booking tours for his whale watching boat When Drew is in a accident she vows to help him by asking his brother Evan to captain the boat, little does she know that a painful history separates these two brothers.Evan does not believe his brother wants him to help and questions Lia, but she insists and when he finds out the name of Drew s boat, he reluctantly agrees Evan has had a hard time moving on from the death of his wife and son, and has escaped by roaming the sea When he comes to SandyCove for repairs, he wonders if he chose this place on purpose, believing it is time for them to talk Good thing Lia is around to help the two reconcile and help Evan return to the living. As a new to me author, Ms Christopher creates a delightful romance that has several of my favorite tropes, a hero in emotional pain, a family that needs healing and a heroine with compassion and strength.Lia is a workaholic marketing rep that wants to please everyone and jumps at the chance to help Drew by asking Evan to captain the boat, not realizing how much she is asking for, as she is unaware of their history or the reason Evan chooses to remove himself from the family She pushes hard at the two and eventually helps by bringing them together and I like her tenacity.Evan has been in mourning for two years, his wife and small child were killed and he has been unable to moved on He is hurting and you can feel it in everything he does and deep down he needs to talk to Drew, to clear up the misunderstanding between them When he meets Lia he immediately is drawn to her, calling her Cinderella They try to stay away from each other but the attraction is strong and their chemistry is apparent, but she resents his protectiveness and often pushes him away When a night out turns bad, she realizes how she feels, things change but are still complicated. The pace works well, I enjoyed the build up to Lia and Evan s romance and the author keeps the reader interested throughout the story Secondary characters are important, Drew plays a pivotal role and I like how things end with the brothers I also liked several of the people that worked on the boat, they made several moments light and fun This is the second in the series but it can easily be read as a standalone An emotional contemporary romance full of heart.Review at Ramblings from a Chaotic MindCopy from publisher for an honest review Book Description In the latest Sandy Cove romance from the author of The of the story It will he a interesting read of just how Lia will convince Evan to help his estranged brother out of this predicament Will this deal make or break Evan As this story goes on and Evan and Lia are together will their be an attraction for each other I loved this part of how this author was able to put Lia out there in such a way and in the awe of the life in the sea that for him it seemed to have a hold Evan so much that when Lia was gone away from him was he was still left thinking of beautiful Lia Was Evan beginning to come down somewhat Were they finally figuring it all out about themselves Now to truly understand this and so muchyou will have to pick up Ten Good Reason to read and see what the author conveys it to the reader It will be a good read There will be some interesting characters from this read some you may like and others not so much but one thing is for sure the reader will be able to capture all the emotionsfrom sadness to even some humorous moments Christopher This is a great summertime story that would be perfect for the beach or for those longing for the sand and sea Christopher follows up The Red Bikini with a story about a very driven woman and a man who has a hard time dealing with his tragic past Readers get treated to some insider info on both the marketing business and whale watching and sightseeing tours A very good romance with compelling characters and some spice What I liked This was my first read from Lauren Christopher and I had really high hopes for it, because I love stories that take place near bodies of water I just like the laid back kind of atmosphere the sea provides and this book certainly created that Sandy Cove seems the perfect little seaside town I liked that Christoper is able to create a cast of characters to populate it that are compelling and engaging, people that you wish you could meet and make friends with The Whale watching angle was excellent and well researched as well Setting is sometimes very important and I think it was here The setting was very well written and made me long for that slower, simpler pace of life But then we meet Lia Lia s life is anything but slow She is a very driven marketing exec that kind of makes you want to pull your hair out when you first meet her She is bossy, sassy, takes over everything she touches and is a bit self serving I thought that profile of an exec was pretty much spot on, at least from my own experience I do think some readers may be turned off by her attitudes in the beginning but give her chance, she grows on ya I like take charge people but I don t want them to think I can be run over and I think that s the same attitude Evan took with her He didn t let her push him around, at least not too much, LOL I love a good brooding hero and Evan certainly fit the bill here He takes to the sea after the death of his wife and son Some might consider that running from the past, but I think it wasof soul searching kind of thing Trying to figure out who he was without them and he needed a little nudge to get back to himself Well, Lia certainly provided the push, a big one I loved the family dynamics in this one The relationship between Evan and Drew as well as his relationship with Lia Excellent situation and characters. What I Didn t Like There were a few times when Lia s ambition got in the way of doing what was right It seemed her need to help her friend Drew wasabout getting the right position at her firm than going out of her way to help a friend The motivations for her actions were a little sketchy at times, which gave me pause about truly committing to liking her as a heroine But like I said maybe she needed to loosen up a little and not push so hard and maybe she did that at least to an extent here I liked her didn t love her Bottom Line This was a good book I loved the theme, the information about whale watching tours, the marketing aspects of the story I loved the town of Sandy Cove and I fell totally in love with our brooding hero, Evan I did wonder about Lia s motivations and her attitude, but I think for all intents and purposes, it worked Christopher did excellent work with setting and characters and provided readers with a little spice as well A good addition to this series Ms Christopher has a true talent for bringing us heroes who are brooding and cynical to the point we reattracted to them because they are a challenge They dare a strong heroine to pick up the gauntlet and show them just how that tough guy cover isn t going to cut it.I loved The Red Bikini, so I was right there matching the stern, standoffishness of Humphrey Bogart in the African Queen But sweet, sunny and shiny Lia is just what the doctor ordered She can t understand why a man can be so intense and so brittle when he has a chance to help his brother a brother who almost died He has a story, a past not just any woman can help him face Because shallow, impatient women look right past him as too much work Lia s genuineness draws Evan like nothing else can Lia needs him because his brother needs him She d cut off her right arm to help her friend and his, bitter hermit of a brother isn t as unaffected by her as he d like to believe What man can resist a woman s smile that starts in her lips and travels to her eyes, catching the glimmer of the water and the bounty of nature s beauty all while whale watching Oh, the amazing descriptions of what they see and what they feel while observing these water giants is breathtaking.Ms Christopher uses Lia s awe and exuberance over the life in the sea around them to hammer away at the blocks of ice that hold Evan s heart frozen She leaves him wondering and thinking about her even when they are apart The scenery and the experiences on the whale watching boats is fabulous The whole story read like I was there, listening to Lia on the mic and catching some salt spray on my sun glasses. This is a very well done story Ms Christopher is
